Carl Freeman Obituary

Carl Lyle Freeman of Greensboro, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at age 78. Carl was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Carl and lone Freeman. He graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD, followed by his undergraduate degree from Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering in Durham, NC, then completed his master’s degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.  Carl was employed for thirty-seven years at General Motors Corporation, retiring in 2001 as Director of Engineering for Full-Size Truck Division.  In 1977, he married the former Alice Marie Henderson. They lived in Romeo, MI, before moving to Georgia 18 years ago. They recently made their home in Del Webb after living in Reynolds at Lake Oconee. Carl was a member of Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. His passion was world missions, and he served as the founding head of the World Missions Team. He was also a member of the Duke Pratt School of Engineering and the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association.

Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Alice Freeman of Greensboro, GA; sons: George Freeman and wife, Amy, of Holly, MI, and Ronald Freeman and wife, Shawn, of Rochester, MI. Grandchildren: Tabitha Garcia, Michael Freeman, and Daniel Freeman. Sisters: Marcia Bini and husband, Donald, of Silver Spring, MD, and Betsy Sweet and husband Rich of Ocala, Florida. Dearly loved by nieces: Allison (and William) Mullholland, Carlen (and Ken) Miller, and Megan Bini. And nephews: Matthew (and Katherine) Sweet and Chris (and Katie) Sweet. Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend to many.  

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held for him on January 16, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church. Rev. D. Marion Clark and Dr. Joe King will officiate the service. The service will also be livestreamed.
