Buddy Short

Voy Archie “Buddy” Short, Jr., age 80, of Greensboro, GA, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at his residence. Born on February 25, 1945, in Walker Park, GA, Walton County, he was the son of the late Voy Archie Short, Sr., and Pearl Pruitt Short. He was educated in Walton County and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1970. During his military service, he held the position of River Boat Patrol Captain.  

Following his service, Buddy became a police officer, serving in Newton County, Greene County, and Morgan County, before returning to Greene County, where he retired after 17½ years of service. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Buddy was a member of Golden Fleece Lodge No. 6 and attended Fork Chapel Methodist Church in Greshamville.  

In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his son, Stacy Short, and his sister, Brenda Short Knight. He is survived by his son, Josh Short, and his wife, Jessica, of Greensboro, GA, as well as grandson Nathan Short and the many friends he made during his career as a police officer.  

A private graveside service was held at Greenview Cemetery. A Celebration of Life gathering will be scheduled at Old Buckhead Holiness Church, 1041 Saffold Rd, Buckhead, GA 30625, at a later date.
