Bobby "Bob" Gene Beeland

Bobby Gene Beeland of Greensboro, GA passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Piedmont Athens Regional at the age of 87. A native of Greene County, Bob was born on October 27, 1934, the son of the late Samuel Alexander Beeland and Edna Patton Beeland.  In 1952 Bob graduated from Greene County High School and in 1957 from Georgia Tech receiving a Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering. Later on in 1983 he received a master’s in administration from Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. On December 10, 1960 Bob married the former Evelyn Wilson of Atlanta, GA.  His working career began at Gulf Oil and then Chicopee Manufacturing.  He also worked for TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) where he was executive in charge of running conventions and conferences around the United States and Canada.  He taught math classes at John Hancock Academy, was Headmaster of Nathanael Greene Academy and for many years he was an Associate Professor for the Small Business Development Center and Senior Business Education Specialist at the University of Georgia.  While living in Athens he served at Beechaven Baptist Church as a deacon, youth worker and on the committee that built their sanctuary. In Atlanta he served as Youth Minister at Buckhead Baptist Church, coached basketball, served as a deacon, and was on the committee to build their sanctuary.  Once he moved back to Greensboro he continued his service at the First Baptist Church as a deacon, and Sunday School teacher.  He was a Lay Preacher and filled in at Crawfordville Baptist Church and Mt. Stephens Baptist Church.  Bob also helped his wife Evelyn with all of her ministries in leading the youth, teaching Sunday school and leading the music.

Bob who was affectionately called “B” by his family loved to tell stories about them.  Those of every age enjoyed spending time with Evelyn and Bob.  He was a member of Mt. Stephens Baptist Church.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Evelyn Beeland on November 18, 2021.  He is survived by a daughter, Wendi Dahlin and husband Danny of Jackson, GA; a son, Jay Beeland of Greensboro, GA and granddaughter, Megan Dahlin; other relatives and many friends.
