William F. Noonan, 83, died on Friday, December 24, 2021 surrounded by his family at home following a long illness.
Born in Pittsburgh to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Noonan, Bill attended Central Catholic High School and graduated from St Vincent College in Latrobe, PA where he met his wife, Mary Lou Hartnett Noonan while she was a student at Seton Hill College. Following college, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy and served in Newport, San Diego, and on aircraft carriers in the Pacific until he and Mary Lou relocated to Connecticut and then New York to raise their family.
His career included roles at UPS, Avon Products, PepsiCo, and ultimately led to the role of President and General Manager of Paxar Asia in Hong Kong, where he and Mary Lou relocated for the years leading to his retirement. Once retired, he first returned to New York, and then within the year to Greensboro, GA where he has lived since 1998. He enjoyed a happy golfing retirement at Reynolds Lake Oconee until becoming ill with Parkinson’s and then dementia – both of which he has battled for the past 6 years. He was grateful for the ability to remain home throughout his illness, and his family is particularly indebted to the loving care of Ramona Fullmore of Eatonton. We are also grateful for his additional caregivers, Doris Moon and Linda Crawford.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou of Greensboro and their children: Kelley and David Jensen of Greensboro, William Jr. of Hoboken and Brick, NJ, and Matthew and Kristen of Pittsboro, NC. He is also survived by granddaughters, Bridget (Collin) Medlin, and Meghan Noonan, both of North Carolina. He also leaves his sisters, Anna M. Connelly and Jane Odato, both of Florida, and one Aunt, Betty Drew of Pennsylvania.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Greene County Library, 610 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642.
Internment will be held privately at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.
Arrangements have been handled by McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro.
