Bevelyn Durham McCommons, age 70, of Union Point, GA died suddenly on Wednesday, November 16, 2005. Bevelyn was born in Taliaferro County on March 21, 1935 to the late Carson Gordon Durham and Lottie Lenora Lunsford Durham and was the devoted wife of the late Robert S. "Bobby" McCommons. She graduated from Union Point High School in 1953 and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville in 1957. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church of Union Point.

Mrs. McCommons served many civic organizations including being past president of the Union Point Garden Club, past Azalea District Director of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and presently a member of the Azalea District Board and The Board of the State Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. She was Chairman of the Governing board of the Union Point Community Center, past President of the Greene County Historical Society, charter member of the Pilot Club of Greene County, Inc., charter member and past president of the Wayside Home Chapter of the Georgia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, past district director of the Georgia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, past president of the Georgia Chapter of the American Mothers Association, presently a member of the State Board of the Georgia Chapter of the American Mothers Association, member of the Farm Bureau where she served as a director on the Board and Greene County Farm Bureau Women''s Chairman, Tax Assessment Chairman of the Board of Equalization, past member of Georgia Farm Bureau State Women Committee, 1952 Georgie Farm Bureau State Queen, active member of the Minnie G. Boswell Hospital Foundation, member of Wilkes County Eastern Star, and Natural and Historic Resources Advisory Committee. She was the founding Administrator of nursing homes in Union Point, Warrenton and Eatonton.

Mrs. McCommons is survived by her three sons, Ricky McCommons of Union Point, GA, Mike McCommons of Union Point, GA and Tim McCommons and wife Susan of Bishop, GA; three grandchildren, Stephen McCommons, Hailey McCommons and Holly McCommons; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Gordan Durham.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Union Point with Rev. Leonard Ezell, Rev. Jim Olds and Patrick Tice officiating. Interment will follow in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Joe Durham, Bobby Durham, Douglas Durham, Melvin Durham, Steve Durham and Brad Hamner. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Copelan, Bay Jones, Malcolm Callaway, Harold Lunsford, Jerry Hackney and Madison Huff. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in her memory to the Union Point Community Center Fund, c/o Durhamtown Plantation, 2350 Randolph Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669.
