Betty Joyce "BJ" (Carmanni) Rice

Betty Joyce Carmanni Rice, known to loved ones and friends as “B.J.”, of Greensboro, GA, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at her residence at the age of 80.  Born April 18, 1939, in Milledgeville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Cecil Carmanni and Violet Bass Carmanni.  B.J. graduated from Peabody High School in Milledgeville, GA. She married Peter J. Rice, Jr. on January 6, 1990.  For many years she owned and operated Holley Realty at Lake Oconee and later partnered with her husband,Pete, at Oconee Realty.  As a realtor, she was President of the Georgia Realtors Association, President of Piedmont Board of Realtors, and a member of the National Realtors Association.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She always put others first and her kindness, love and humor will always be remembered.  She could coach anything and attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and school activities.  B.J. enjoyed working in the yard, travelling with Pete, and playing bridge with friends.  She was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.

B.J. is survived by her loving husband, Pete Rice, of 29 years, her two daughters Rene' Lindsey (Jay) of Greensboro, GA, and Vickie Melder (Mitchell) of Milledgeville, GA; son Steve Power (Kathy) of Conyers, GA, sister Karen Callaway (Lamar) of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren: Claire Ferry (Zak), Clayton Gasaway, Trent Smith (Kate), and Shelby Greene; great grandchildren: Rome and Vida Ferry and Paislee and Knox Smith.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Bloodworth and beloved dog, Harvey.

A celebration of life in memory of B.J. will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642, with Rev. Patrick Tice officiating.
