Bennie Mae Lovern Copelan of the Greshamville Community, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023 at High Shoals Health and Rehab in Bishop, GA. Born March 29, 1933 in Madison, GA, she was one of three daughters of the late Troy Beatty and Daisy Malcolm Lovern. In 1949, she graduated from Morgan County High School. Immediately following graduation, she went to work in Madison for Southern Bell, first as a telephone operator and then retired as administrative assistant in 1983. W. R. and Bennie Mae were married on May 3, 1953 and lived in Madison. Their first home was an apartment upstairs in the Dove Cote house on Main Street. Their son W. R. Copelan III (Ross) was born in 1955 in Greensboro and their daughter Bonnie was born in 1959 also in Greensboro. In 1985 the family returned to Greshamville to the old home place. Bennie Mae continued to be a faithful and dedicated member of Fork Chapel United Methodist Church and also a member of the WMU. She enjoyed the Meadow Crest Quilt Club, exercising with the Silver Sneakers and anything with her family, whom she dearly loved and church friends.
In addition to her daughter, Bonnie Duvall (Billy) of Greshamville, she is survived by her grandchildren, Will Duvall (Tiffany), John Duvall (Jessica), and Katie Copelan; great grandchildren, Cody Duvall (Sydney), Madison Duvall, Laney Duvall, and Macey Duvall and great great grandchildren, Wyatt Rossman Kirk, Sage Castillo, and Ella Chase Duvall; other relatives and many friends. In addition to her husband, W. R. Copelan, Jr. and her son, Ross Copelan, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Hazel Smith and Reba Osborne.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Fork Chapel United Methodist Church in Greshamville with Dr. William Neely officiating. Interment will follow at Madison Memorial Cemetery with Billy Duvall, Will Duvall, John Duvall, Cody Duvall, Russell Ivie and Jackie Copelan serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.
