Barbara Ann Simons Combs

Barbara Ann Simons Combs, age 71, of Union Point, Georgia, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at University Hospital in Augusta. She was born in Taliaferro County on May 9, 1936 to the late Julius Ceasar Simons and Edna Gertrude Lyle Simons. She attended Alexander H. Stephens Institute in Crawfordville, GA. She was a homemaker who loved to make jelly, jam and quilts and was a loving mother and grandmother. Barbara was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Frank Miller in 1991; and siblings, Jack Simons, Roy Simons, Steed Simons, Bertha Howe and Mary Dean Moore. Survivors include her husband, Franklin Lewis Combs, Sr., of Union Point, GA; two daughters, Hope Bennett and husband Ken of Buckhead, GA and Gail Strickland and husband Steve of Colbert, GA; a step daughter, Joy Newberry and husband Larry of Union Point, GA; a son, David Miller and wife Mary Ann of Plum Branch, SC; a stepson, Franklin Combs, Jr. of Union Point, GA; sister, Lucy Dailey of Virginia; two brothers, Ralph Simons and wife Loretta of Greensboro, GA and Tommy Simons of Crawfordville, GA; nine grandchildren, Crystal Carter, Wesley Smith, Georgia Smith, Brandon Bennett, Mitchell Bennett, Jennifer Parks, Misty Strickland, Amber Strickland and Jayden Newberry; four great grandchildren, Ashlyn Smith, Buffy Carter, Hayden Carter and Tripp Parks ; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point, GA with Rev. Jim Olds and Rev. Lem Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Phillips Mill Baptist Church Cemetery in Washington, GA. Serving as pallbearers are Reuben Worthen, Richard Cronic, Tony Fowler, Donald Dockery, Bud Thornton and Bruce Lovin. Honorary pallbearers are Chester Greeson, Burt Hensley, Charles Gheesling, Jerry Lunceford, Stephen Marera, Rocky Roberts, Allen Griffith and Jeff Cronic.
