Anthony Carani Obituary

Anthony Richard Carani, age 76, of Reynolds Plantation, Greensboro, GA, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at NCH North Naples Hospital while vacationing in Bonita Springs, Florida. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Valerio Carani and Elvira Melargano Carani. He graduated from Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio and joined the United States Navy serving his country during the Korean War. After the war he graduated from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After many years in sales and marketing, he retired from General Foods as international sales manager. His first wife and the mother of his children, Joan Patterson Carani, preceded him in death in 1994 after a courageous battle with cancer. He married Susan Braland in 1998 and in July of 2000 they moved from Dunwoody to Reynolds Plantation. He attended Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro and was a member of the Reynolds Plantation Mens Golf Association and Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth. He was especially fond of golf and was known to shoot a round of golf lower than his age. He had taken numerous international trips and cruises with Italy being his favorite. He also enjoyed reading, cooking, and walking.

In addition to his wife, Susan Braland Carani, of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by his children, Abby Carani Helton and husband Tony of Lawrenceville, GA, Laura Carani Bowers and husband Todd of Gainesville, GA, Mark Carani and wife Stacey of Lawrenceville, GA and Michael Carani of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother, Paul Carani and wife Ruth of Willoughby, OH; his grandchildren, Amanda Marks, Marissa Carani, Olivia Carani, Christina Carani, Jake Bowers and Julia Bowers; a great grandchild, Brady Maddox; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Marks.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Father G. Philip Ryan officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery, 201 Mt. Vernon Road NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers are Bob Schoen, Mike Atkins, Dan Murphy, Cecil Roth, Jim Owens, Ray McGinty, Steve Adams and Joe Boyd. A vigil will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at McCommons Funeral Home.
