Amy McCannon Obituary

Amy Carolyn McCannon, a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at her residence in the early morning of February 2, 2026, at the age of 44. Born on January 23, 1982, in Greensboro, Amy was the daughter of Elaine Foster Standard of Greensboro and the late Howard McCannon. She was a graduate of the Greene County High School for children with special needs.

Amy was truly the star of the show. Despite her handicaps, she faced and overcame many challenges, living a full and happy life surrounded by family and friends. Known for her gentle manner and loving spirit, Amy never met a stranger and shared everything she had. She loved music, with her favorite song being “The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round.”

She was famous for always carrying a book bag filled with picture books that documented her family’s best and most embarrassing moments—she loved raiding her mom’s picture collections. To keep up with her enthusiasm, her mother and other family members began printing double copies of photos just for Amy’s books. She also carried an extensive art collection of crayon stick figures, usually drawn on printer paper, featuring huge heads, big round noses, and the names of the people she drew, always labeling them as “BEST FRIENDS.” And truly, Amy was best friends with everyone.

She shared her toys and baby dolls with all the children in the family and loved her family with an unconditional love that taught everyone what it truly meant to be family, free from resentment or discontent. Amy was the best of her family, and the world is dimmer without her light. The family takes comfort in knowing she is now walking the streets of gold without any handicaps and that they will see and love her again one day, just as she loved them on earth.

Amy is survived by her mother, Elaine Standard of Greensboro; her step-father, Haynes Standard; her brothers, David Baloun (Jennifer), Chris Standard (Steffany), Jamie Standard (Rachel), and Tony McCannon; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is also survived by her good friend and caretaker, Jennifer Simpson.
