Addison Crews Obituary

Addison Whitman Crews

Our Daddy, Addison Whitman 'Buddy' Crews of Eatonton, Georgia joined our Lord and Savior from the mountain tops of the Cumberland Gap in Tennessee Friday, May 22nd, 2020. He lived a healthy and very active life of 85 years doing what he loved up to the last second of his life. Even though we were not prepared for him to leave, it was a tremendous comfort to family and friends that his love for the Lord and being His servant to those in need are what we remember most as Daddy was taken into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Daddy was born in Walkertown, NC to Thomas Albert Jr. and Helen Whitman Crews. He graduated from Walkertown High School and would later serve in the military in Germany. Our parents were married fifty-four years when our mother preceded him in death, and we know she greeted him with her angel wings wide open as he walked through Heaven's gate.

Dad was a sales representative with Hormel Foods for 40 years before he would retire and be blessed to enjoy twenty-five years of a healthy retirement on Lake Oconee. During his years of retirement, he started the Central Georgia Christian Food Bank in Eatonton, GA where he would serve as President until he passed away. Daddy and his many volunteers of the surrounding areas supplied and fed many needy and impoverished people of the Georgia, Kentucky, and West Virginia areas. With a heavy heart and tear-filled eyes, he shared with us that he always wished he could do more for these communities and was so appreciative of all the volunteers and their dedicated hearts and souls.

My sister and I want to deeply thank all of God's servants who volunteered many hours of their free time to meet the hungry need of many. Please know without your dedication and commitment of time and financial donations, the food bank would not exist today.

Daddy is survived by my sister and me, Mary Frances Crews Buchanan (Carl) of Dacula, GA, Betsy Lynn Crews Rose (Larry) of Covington, Ga; one brother Reverend Thomas Albert Crews III, (Jenny) of Chattanooga, TN; three grandchildren, Brittany Lynn Rose of Atlanta, GA, Zachary Tyler Buchanan of Clemson, SC and Samuel Blake Buchanan of Brookhaven, GA; brother-in-law Emory M. Cochran (Margie) of Virginia, brother-in-law Thomas A. Hughes, Jr. (Jeanne) of Mechanicsville, VA and many nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Daddy's Life, to be held at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church where he was an active member, will be delayed until further notice due to COVID-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made and sent to Central Georgia Christian Food Bank, 113 Scott Road, Eatonton, Ga 31024 (a 501C3 Charity) in memory of Addison Whitman 'Buddy' Crews.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements. Visit us at www.mccommonsfuneralhome.com to sign the online guest register.
