William Nipper, Sr Obituary

William Brown “Bub” Nipper, Sr., age 94, of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. Born in Rochelle, GA on January 12, 1918, he was the son of the late William Alex Nipper and Maggie Brown Nipper. After living in Rochelle as a child, Bub moved to Greensboro in 1934 with his family and graduated form Greensboro High School in 1935. In 1937 he graduated from Oxford College of Emory University and in 1939 from Emory University. After college, he owned and operated Nipper Chevrolet in Greensboro. During World War II he served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. and on November 16, 1943, he married the former Sarah Nell Nelson of Cartersville, GA. In 1960, he became the owner of NAPA Auto Parts in Greensboro and Union Point until he retired in 1983. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro, where he served on numerous committees. Always an avid sports fan and participant, Bub never ever thought he should miss a Georgia Bulldogs basketball game, men or women!! He always enjoyed playing golf at the Greene County Country Club and on his many trips to Florida. The beach played an important part in his life---golf, swimming and eating shrimp. Bub was preceded in death by his wife Nell in October of 1982. Survivors include a son, Dr. William Brown “Bill” Nipper, Jr. and wife Kathlyn of Green Cove Springs, FL; two daughters, Brenna Nipper Brand and husband Dr. Robert Brand of Augusta, GA and Margaret “Marty” Nipper Sirmans and husband Chip of Milledgeville, GA; six grandchildren, Alex Brand and wife Allyson of Richmond, VA, Robin Brand Gentry and husband Shawn of Dallas, TX, Clay Peterson and wife Jennifer of Jacksonville, FL, Matt Nipper and wife Cynthia of Copenhagen, Denmark, Maggie Nipper of Charlotte, NC, and Sarah Beth McMillan and husband James of Louisville, GA; five great grandchildren, Lilly and Tyler Brand, Sage and Amelia Peterson and J. D. McMillan; and a very special dear friend, Mary Anna Torbert of Greensboro, GA. The family would like to thank Roger West as well as all of his faithful caregivers, especially Sondra Porter. Private internment will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Morningside Cemetery, 250 Grady Street, Rochelle, GA 31079 with Pastor Merry Grayson officiating. A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, North Campus, 202 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P O Box 216, Greensboro, GA 30642. or to Oxford College of Emory University, Fund for Excellence, 100 Hamill St., Oxford,GA 30054.
