William Joseph Glavic, age 85, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in Cuyahoga County on March 18, 1924, he was the son of the late John Glavic and Rose Flis Glavic. He attended Collinwood High School in Cleveland, Ohio and in 1946 married Gloria Mae Perry. Mr. Glavic served his country in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he became a service manager at Glavic Motors in Cleveland, Ohio. When he was sixty-two, he retired from a Nissan dealership in Costa Messa CA. After retiring, he lived in Sanford, North Carolina, Albuquerque, New Mexico, then in Bend, Oregon and finally settling in Greensboro, GA in 2005. He was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. He loved to play golf, go bowling and work in the garden.
In addition to his wife, Gloria Glavic of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by two daughters, Deneen M. Porter and husband David of Greensboro, GA and Sharon L. Vincent of Fontana, CA; three grandchildren, Chris Wadleigh, Jennifer Chaffee and Ceara Martinez; two great grandchildren, Owen Chaffee and Emma Chaffee; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Joe Glavic, John Glavic, Harry Glavic, Rose Carr and Hermine Schrantz.
