William Finch, Jr Obituary

William Hampton “Bill” Finch Jr., age 85, of Greensboro, GA died Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Macon Northside Hospital. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born September 1, 1919 to the late William Hampton Finch Sr. and Bell Armor Finch. He attended Greensboro School and furthered his education after the war under the GI Bill. In the 1930’s he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp and Mary Leila Cotton Mill. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater and was a part of the occupation forces in Japan. After the war, he operated the Sinclair Station, Finch American Service Station, Texaco and Amoco. Later he opened Finch’s Convenience Store on the Athen’s Highway. He was a member of the West End Baptist Church of Greensboro, Men’s Bible Class and Veterans of Foreign Wars Adams Walker Post #4259. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Garrison Bedsole Finch in February of 2002 and a great granddaughter, Brandy McKinley; survivors include a daughter, Dianne Finch McKinley of Greensboro, GA; a son, William D. Finch and wife Deloris of Tupelo, MS; three grandchildren, John Finch of New Site, MS, Jeff Finch of New Site, MS and Alan McKinley and wife Jill of Greensboro, GA; three great grandchildren, Shelby Higdon, Dustin Higdon and Gage McKinley; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the West End Baptist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Wayne Usry and Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Charles Copelan, Bobby Voyles, Jim Cline, Gentry Strickland, Roger West and David Cheeley. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Branyan, Wallace Patton, Fred Edwards, Johnnie Hawk, Francis Byce, Hal McGinnis and Dr. Lee Parker. The family requests that any memorials be made to West End Baptist Church, c/o Shirley Nicholson, 125 Pinecrest Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642.
