William Brown Obituary

William Mercer Brown, age 83, of Union Point, Georgia, died on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, GA. A lifelong resident of Union Point he was born January 27, 1930 to the late Marion and Susie Smith Brown. He received his education from Woodville and Union Point schools. Mercer served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War from 1951 to 1956. He married the former Jeanette Bonner on September 24, 1955. Mercer drove for Reese Oil Company, Stewart Oil Company and Lawrence Oil Company for forty-six years retiring in 1994. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. He enjoyed building, tinkering and working in the garden.

In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, Jeanette Bonner Brown of Union Point, GA, he is survived by four sons, Michael Brown (Chee) of Greensboro, GA, Eddie Brown (Tina) of Greensboro, GA, Dwayne Brown (Tammy) of Union Point, GA and Greg Brown (Beth) of Union Point, GA; sisters, Martha Brown of Union Point, GA, Betty Jean Brown of Athens, GA and Linda Brown of Union Point, GA; brothers, Carlton Brown of Macon, GA, Cecil Brown (Frances) of Union Point, GA, Thomas Brown of Union Point, GA and Albert Brown (Sandra) of Union Point, GA; grandchildren, Katie Dickey (Derrick), Kurt Brown, Craig Stewart, Jason Brown, Guerin Brown, Rusty Holcomb, Kelby Carson, Wayne Brown (Tarsha), David Brown (Ashley), Stephen Brown, Tiffany Cucuzza (Ben) and Susan Brown; two great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends and his companion dog, Batman. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Howard Brown.

Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Lem Clark and Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Tommy Swann, Joey Griffith, Matt Nunn, David Cronic, Tony Fowler and George Nunn. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night at Callaway Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to Bethesda Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O.
