William Bailey Obituary

William Harold Bailey, age 68, of Buckhead, GA, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at his residence. Born in Newton County on June 11, 1941, he was the son of the late William Carl Bailey and Kathleen Crowe Bailey. He married Mary Ethel Strange on October 19, 1960. He worked for Ginn Motor Company as a mechanic and later owned and operated Bailey''s Garage for a number of years. For twenty-six years ending in 2007, he carried the paper for the Atlanta Journal Constitution and for the last four years carried the Athens Banner Herald. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ethel Strange Bailey on September 19, 1992; a son, William Michael Bailey on June 8, 1991; a granddaughter, Jessica Bailey on December 7, 2008; and a brother, Charles Bailey. He is survived by two sons, Mark Bailey and wife Suzille of Buckhead, GA, Marshall Alan Bailey and wife Amber of Buckhead, GA; a nephew that they raised, Todd Plunkett and wife Amy of Eatonton, GA; three sisters, Opal "Geek" Gilbert of Eatonton, GA, Claudie Mae Plunkett of Eatonton, GA and Patricia Rutledge of Covington, GA; an adopted sister, Faye Middlebrook of Covington, GA; a brother, Ralph Bailey of Covington, GA; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth "Angel" Bailey, Alan Bailey and Jake Bailey; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bailey Family Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Powers officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday night at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
