William Askew Obituary

William Clyde “Bill” Askew, age 90, of Penfield, GA, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Greene County on May 22, 1917, he was the son of the late George Edgar Askew and Lillie Adams Askew. During World War II he served his country in the United States Army. He was a truck driver for Meadows Freight Line and a member of Penfield Baptist Church. After living in Brooks, Georgia for a number of years, he returned to Greene County to be close to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Askew in August of 2000; a son, William Edgar Askew; a sister, Marie Murray; and a nephew, Henry Murray. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Julie Ann Pace of Brooks, GA; sister, Minnie Whitehead of Penfield, GA; nieces and nephews, Carol Harris of Penfield, GA, Gail Bedsole of Penfield, GA, Naomi Jones of Burlington, NC, Morris Murray of Tucker, GA, Hilda Burt of Penfield, GA, Donald Murray of Burlington, NC and Elsie Harwell of Greensboro, GA,; two grandchildren, Lisa Thomas and Barbara Haralson; three great grandsons; and a number of other friends and relatives. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Penfield Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating.
