Wiley Bruce Jones

Wiley Bruce Jones, age 57, of Greensboro, GA died Thursday, September 16, 2004. Born in Wilkes County on January 8, 1947 he was the son of Dorothy Leona Ogletree Jones of the Robinson Community in Taliaferro County and the late Wiley Cranston Jones. In 1965 he graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute and in 1969 from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Poultry Science. In January of 1970 he started work for the Taliaferro County Department of Family and Children Services as a caseworker and became County Director in September of 1972 serving until he retired on disability in 1996. During his lifetime Wiley wrote several books including Cemetery Census of Taliaferro County, History of Robinson, I Remember and First Set of Wheels. He was a member of Robinson Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Myra Ann Edwards Jones of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Amanda Scott and husband Thomas of Wake Forest, NC; a son, Clay Jones of Athens, GA; three sisters, Barbara Merlene Browning and husband Robert of the Robinson Community, Nell J. Smith and husband Lamar of Bowden, GA and Sandra Marie Meloon of Orlando, FL; two brothers Franklin Thomas Jones and wife Geraldine of Thomson, GA and Harvey Deen Jones and wife Kay of Alpharetta, GA.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Robinson Baptist Church with Rev. Derek Smith and Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Yearwood, Lee Yearwood, Walter Browning, Robert Browning, Jamie Smith, Dale Ashley and Jeff Womack. The family requests that any memorials be made to the ALS Association, P. O. Box 5051, Hagerstown, MD 21741-9813 or the Robinson Baptist Church, 3034 Greensboro Road, Union Point, GA 30669.
