Walter Wilson, Sr Obituary

Gene Wilson, age 78, of Greensboro, GA, died at Athens Regional Medical Center on Friday, January 9, 2009 of pulmonary thrombosis and lung cancer. Gene was born in Macon, GA on February 15, 1930 to the late Jack H. and Annie Humane Wilson. He graduated from Lanier for Boys and served in the United States Navy for three years. While living in Decatur, Gene was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, served as a little league manager and was a scoutmaster. His career with Norfolk Southern began in 1950. He was yard clerk, chief yard clerk and then yardmaster. In 1960 he was promoted to management as transportation inspector in Atlanta. He later became manager of data services. After retirement in 1987, he and his wife moved to Greensboro, GA, where he was a member of Walker United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer for the Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund for eighteen years and chairman for eight years.

Gene is survived by his wife, Natalie Wilson of Greensboro, GA; son, Walter Wilson and his wife, Carol of Augusta, GA; granddaughters, Elizabeth of Decatur, GA and Rebecca of Augusta, GA; grandson, Ben of Augusta, GA; three sisters, Laverne McCallum of Lizella, GA, Nita Radcliffe of Anderson, SC and Sue Hudson of Byron, GA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Walker United Methodist Church with Rev. John Pike Officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Jack Wilson, Mark Yancey, Hal Stewart, Michael von Borstel, Al LaCross, and Eddie Sheppard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday Night at the Funeral Home. The family requests that donations be made to Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 or the Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund, P. O.
