Walker Lewis Ashley, age 86, of White Plains, Georgia, died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Boswell Parker Nursing Center. A lifelong resident of White Plains, he was born July 24, 1916 to the late Henry Teline Ashley and Sarah Perkins Ashley. He attended school in White Plains, Siloam and Greensboro and attended White Plains United Methodist Church. Mr. Ashley was a former mayor of White Plains. He was a farmer and worked as a rural mail carrier for 24 years.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Helen Chapman Ashley, of White Plains, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held Monday, July 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Les Cowart officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at the funeral home.
