Vicenta Cross Obituary

Vicenta Cordeta Cross, 71, was welcomed to heaven by her beloved parents and son Jason on December 22, 2011 in Houston, Texas. Born January 1940 in Biliran the Philippines. She was a strong woman and was admired by many for her wisdom and advice. She met Jessie I. Brinkley, her first husband and father to her three children, at Clark Air Force Base on Luzon Island. She loved to travel and lived in many areas across the country, before finally making her home in Texas. She loved to walk on the beautiful white shores on the Mississippi Coast and to take her children crabbing. She enjoyed working in her garden, relaxing by her fireplace, shopping with her children, and bowling with her husband, Jerry. Her life was shaped each day by the miracle of being a Mother. For so many years her every moment was intently set on the world of raising two beautiful and independent daughters. She knew her family created a wondrous way of filling her heart with all the dreams she had in life. Throughout her 7 year battle with cancer her most proud moment was to see her daughters become Mothers and to pass on this blessed love. Vicenta was also gifted with a beautiful singing voice. Her singing could be heard from the kitchen and she would whistle a Patsy Cline tune. Her smile, motivation, and trademark determination gave her the energy to continue to make the memories we remember so fondly all the way to the end. She was always there cooking and feeding our souls whenever we needed her. "Lola" as she was so affectionately called by her grandsons will be missed at every family gathering, although her spirit will most certainly be there. She enriched the lives of all who knew her, especially the few who weren''t actually born to her, but still lucky enough to call her Lola.

She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Jerry Cross with whom she shared her love and passion for throughout the years. She left many gifts for the world including her daughters: Brenda Brinkley and husband Andy Andrews of Cypress, Texas; Anissa Brinkley and her partner, Jos Kester, of The Hague, Netherlands; 3 grandsons: Tony, Drew, and Ea who were her greatest joys and completed her life here on Earth.

A viewing was held on Tuesday, December 27th at 10:30 am at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home at 9926 Jones Road in Houston. She was buried next to her son Jason on Thursday, December 29th at 11:00 in the Shiloh Cemetery in Greensboro, GA. McCommons Funeral Home,109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642, 706-453-2626 was in charge of local arrangements.
