Vernon Jackson Lucas

Vernon Jackson Lucas of Greensboro, GA, died at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA on Friday, February 8, 2013. He was 67. A native of Atlanta, GA, he was born at Fort McPherson on October 26, 1945 to the late Earl Linden Lucas and Bonnie Jean Phillips Lucas. He graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville, AL and received a Bachelor''s degree in Chemistry from Florence State University. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Joan Marie Graybill, on August 28, 1966. All of his career was spent at Coca Cola, working first as a chemist before moving on to a variety of other roles. His career path included stops in Atlanta, GA; Sydney, Australia; London, England; and finally Houston, TX, before retiring in 2000 after thirty-two years of service. In 2001 he and Joan moved from Houston to Lake Oconee. He was a man of many interests and talents. He was a private pilot who built his own airplane, was an amateur radio operator, and was a member of the Reynolds Plantation Chorus. He also enjoyed traveling, woodworking, golfing and building computers. Vernon was a member of Lake Oconee Lutheran Church in Eatonton, GA.

Besides his wife Joan Graybill Lucas of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by a daughter, Valerie Lucas Reeves and son-in-law Mark Reeves of Snellville, GA; a son David Earl Lucas of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Reeves, Jackson Reeves and Pamela Masterson; two sisters Elaine Hubbard and Angela Lucas; and a brother, Tommy Lucas.

A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA with Pastor Ron Schornhorst officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church fellowship hall.
