Vera Channell Newton

Vera Channell Newton, 81, of Greensboro, Georgia died Monday, November 17, 2003 at her residence. A native of Greene county, she was born August 30, 1922 to the late Reba Bell Ashley Lankford. She attended school in Greene County, was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey B. Newton in April of 1979. She is survived by two daughters, Linda N. Eley and husband Ted of Watkinsville, GA and Jill N. Tanner and husband Ron of Suwanee, GA; a son, Jackie Newton of Greensboro, GA; two grandchildren, Kim Eley Crowe and husband Bobby of Watkinsville, GA and Paige Eley Owens and husband Chad of Gainesville, GA; and two great grandchildren, Kaeley Payton Crowe and Robert Nicholas Crowe.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenview Cemetery with Rev. Dan Fuller officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
