Vera Anderson Obituary

Vera Young Anderson, age 98, of Union Point, Georgia, died on Friday, August 10, 2007 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. She was born March 29, 1909 in the Fluker House in the Temperance Bell Community to the late Overton Young and Ora Eidson Young. A lifelong resident of Greene County except for a few years when she was around six years old she lived in Texas. She attended school at Temperance Bell School in Union Point and Woodville High School. For a while she worked at Union Manufacturing and then was a homemaker and helped her husband and enjoyed her grandchildren. She was the oldest member of Bethesda Baptist Church of Union Point joining on August 20, 1924. She attended Mamie Hester Memorial Sunday School Class and was very active in church work until her health would not allow. A huge baseball fan, she enjoyed watching her husband play catcher on the Union Point Baseball Team and loved the Atlanta Braves. One of her favorite pastimes was the tedious art of tatting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. H. "Bub" Anderson in December of 1979, her son, Marvin Anderson, Sr. in 1996 and siblings Marvin Young and Mamie Young. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Shirley Wilson Anderson of Union Point, GA; a granddaughter, Tammy Anderson of Johnson City, TN; a grandson, Marvin "Bubba" Anderson, Jr. of Union Point, GA; nieces, Martha Young Ingram of Jemison, AL and Ann Young Yearwood of Union Point, GA; nephews, John Marvin Young of Union Point, GA and Thomas Young of Birmingham, AL; and a number of great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point, GA with Rev. Jim Olds, Rev. John McMillian and Rev. Carolyn Poling officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Hollis Yearwood, Steve Poling, Archie Koester, Jimmy Howard, Kenny Howard, Tim Harrison, Darryl Kitchens, Tim Branyan, Gerald Silvey and Jimmy Thornton. Honorary pallbearers are Melvin Durham, Carroll Durham, Kyle Kitchens, Lester Mize and members of the Mamie Hester Memorial Sunday School Class. Memorials can be made to Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday night at the funeral home.
