Thurston Askew Obituary

Thurston Starr Askew, age 86, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Eatonton Health and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong resident of Greene County born on December 15, 1920, he was the last of nine children of the late Edward Hale Askew and Mary Elizabeth Park Askew. He attended Ridgegrove and Meadowcrest Schools. Along with his wife, Carles, and their four young sons, he ran a poultry, beef and dairy farm. He was a member of Walker United Methodist Church of Greensboro. His favorite activities were fishing, gardening, eating, talking and telling jokes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carles Irene Davis Askew in August of 2005; and his siblings, Myrtle A. Harris, Mary Ellen Hammond, Carolyn Askew, Charles W. Askew, Kelso Askew, Parks Askew, E. H. Askew and Jack Askew. Survivors include four sons, Raymond Askew of Greensboro, GA, Bill Askew and wife Joanne of Bishop, GA, Allen Askew and wife Sandra of White Plains, GA and Horace Askew and wife Ann of Greensboro, GA; seven grandchildren, Donna Moon and husband Tommy, Ben Askew and wife Debbie, Kimberly Fisher and husband Gordon, Jonathan Askew, Jason Askew, Erica Askew and Luke Askew; three great grandchildren, Brook Moon, Ellie Askew and Abby Fisher; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Church Cemetery with Rev. John Pike officiating. Pallbearers will be Blake Batchelor, Johnny Batchelor, Wayne Taylor, William Coleman, Tom Towler and Gene Askew. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home. Any memorials may be made to Nathanael Greene Academy, P. O.
