Thomas Nance Obituary

Thomas McKinley “Pete” Nance, age 66, of Greensboro, Georgia died Thursday, September 10, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta. Born in Carroll County on September 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph McKinley Nance and Cynthia June Godfrey Nance. He graduated from Brown High School in Atlanta, GA. He was the Executive Vice-President of GC Services. In 1993, he and longtime friend, R.T. Cardwell, formed their own financial services company, Financial Asset Management Systems (FAMS), where Pete served as CEO. In 2005 he and his wife, Nancy, sold the company and soon relocated to Greensboro where they enjoyed their new life of “underemployment.” His kind heart and charitable works touched the lives of everyone he encountered. For his children and grandchildren, Pete modeled a life of integrity, respect, and responsibility, teaching them the value of family, faith and education. Pete had an adventurous spirit and an insatiable appetite for travelling the world, spending time outdoors, racing his thoroughbred horses, and practicing conservation through timber farming. Above all, Pete loved his grandchildren beyond words. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Richard Carnell Nance, Betty Glosson, Cynthia Lee Rodriquez, Beverly June Nance, Toni Owen, and John Allen Nance. In addition to his loving wife, Nancy Young Nance of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by six children: Sharon Nance White and husband Dennis of McDonough, GA; Kathie Nance Askey and husband Carl of McDonough, GA; Summer Elizabeth Key and husband William of Millers Creek, NC; Christina Nance of Atlanta, GA; and Tracey Nance Pendley and husband Andy of Chicago, IL; and Richard McKinley Nance and wife Polly of Atlanta, GA. Pete will also be missed by eight grandchildren: Matthew White, Megan White, William White, Taylor Upole, Kylie Upole, Ashlynn Skerbinc, Andrew Key and Rush Nance; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Greensboro with Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until time for the service at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center. The family requests that any memorials be made to Saint Joseph’s Mercy Foundation, 5673 Peachtree-Dunwoody Road NE, Suite 650, Atlanta, GA 30312 or the Greene County Food Pantry, 519 Morningside Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642.
