Thomas Andrew Martz, age 61, of Union Point, GA, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at his residence. Born December 21, 1949 in Monterrey, Mexico he was the son of Dorothy Lydon Moore of Dalton, GA and the late George Hall Martz. He graduated from Kemmerer High School in Wyoming and the University of Georgia in Athens. He served his country in the United States Marines. His career in teaching began at Greene County Schools where he served as both a teacher and administrator for over thirty years as well as coached football and girls basketball. At the time of his death, he was teaching for Oglethorpe County High School. Tom was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Lee Spaven "Cindy" Martz in June of 2008. In addition to his mother, Dorothy Lydon Moore of Dalton, GA, he is survived by a daughter, Amanda Etheridge and husband Jeff of Union Point, GA; a son, Josh Martz and wife Charlie of Eatonton, GA; two sisters, Kathy Payne and husband Wallace of Dalton, GA and Patty Rodgers of St. Simons Island; three brothers, Bob Windsor of Atlanta, GA, Jack Martz and wife Barbara of Douglasville, GA and Mike Martz and wife Gaye of Athens, GA; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church South Campus, 4741 Carey Station Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Richard Chewning and Rev. Grady Mosley officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers are past and present teachers and students of Greene and Oglethorpe County Schools. The family will receive friends one hour after the service at the South Campus. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Greene County, P. O.
