Thomas Rufus Haynes of Union Point, GA, died on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Saint Joseph''s Hospital in Greensboro, GA. Son of the late Marcus Franklin Haynes and Fannie Craig Haynes, Tom was born on April 14, 1923, in Morgan County, Georgia. He attended school at Buckhead and Madison High Schools. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he was employed as a Merchant Marine transporting cargo and passengers until retirement. He was a member of the Madison Masonic Lodge #376, where he received his fifty year pin, a member of the American Legion and the Oscar Thomason Post 2557 in Madison, GA. Tom was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, GA.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Greeson Haynes in 1990 and a brother, Carter A. Haynes. He is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Shirley Emerson Kelly Haynes of Union Point, GA; a daughter, Connie Haynes Burke and husband Keith of Alpharetta, GA; step daughter, Claire Kelly Smith of Newnan, GA; a son Mark Greeson Haynes of Tampa, FL; two step sons, Sidney Kelly and wife Teresa of Greensboro, GA and Mike Kelly and wife Audrey of Clarksville, GA; three grandchildren, Haley Haynes Burke, Molly Garrett Burke, and Ethan Mark-Thomas Haynes; a step granddaughter, Amanda Kelly; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point with Rev. Dr. James Choomack and Rev. Stephen Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Buckhead Memorial Cemetery in Buckhead, GA. Serving as pallbearers are John Osborne, Sidney Kelly, Mike Kelly, David Heffner, Lanier Rhodes and Sibley Bryan. Honorary pallbearers are Evans Acree, Henry Sisson, G. L. Culver and the Elders of the Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon until time for the service at the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point. The family requests that any memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Veazey Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
