Thomas Wayne Godbee

Thomas Wayne Godbee, age 61, of Crawfordville, GA, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington, GA. Born in Wilkes County on July 20, 1946 he was the son of Lottie Mae Howell Godbee of Crawfordville, GA and the late Ernest Frank Godbee, Sr. In 1964 he graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute and then attended Clayton State College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 15 1968 he married Deborah Smith and they had recently celebrated their fortieth anniversary. He worked for Southern Bell for twenty-three years and from 1987 to 2005 he was the owner and operator of Godbee Communications. His last employment was with the Home Depot Corporate Office Executive Group as a Systems Engineer. In 2005 he moved from Conyers where he had been living back to Crawfordville. Wayne was an active member of Crawfordville Baptist Church. He enjoyed fixing and tinkering with things, gardening, doing mechanical work, fishing, watching Nascar and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Smith Godbee of Crawfordville, GA; two daughters, Tricia Zember and husband David of Conyers, GA and Melinda Roberts and husband Douglas of McDonough, GA; a son Kevin Godbee and wife Janet of Jackson, GA; mother, Lottie Mae Howell Godbee of Crawfordville, GA; two sisters, Martha Ann Rogers of Sparta, GA and Vivian Milner of Crawfordville, GA; three brothers, Ernest "Buddy" Godbee of Milledgeville, GA, Freddie Godbee of Gray, GA and Randy Godbee of Siloam, GA; nine grandchildren, Christian Zember, Patrick Zember, Evan Zember, Victoria Zember, Tyler Roberts, Ethan Roberts, Olivia Roberts, Graham Godbee and Jeremy Godbee; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Crawfordville Baptist Church with Rev. John Autry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Charles Greene, Charlie Taylor, John Faulk, Lane Moncrief, Joey Rhodes and Wayne Williams.
