Thelma Ruth Rhodes Godbee, age 83, of Union Point, GA, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Athens. A native of Taliaferro County she was born on October 23, 1925 to the late William Raymond Rhodes and Pauline Frances Kelly Rhodes. She attended Margaret''s Grove School and Alexander Stephens Institute. She then worked for Royal Manufacturing in Crawfordville, GA. When she married John Godbee, they moved to Decatur, GA. While in Decatur, Thelma worked for Food Giant as a stocker and then as a cashier, retiring in 1982. They returned to Crawfordville and a few years after her husband''s death, she moved next to her brother, Ray Rhodes, where she lived for the next seven years. She had recently resided at Boswell Parker in Greensboro. Thelma was a member of Margaret''s Grove Baptist Church in Crawfordville and the Eastern Star in Decatur.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Godbee in October of 1997 and her siblings, William "Billy" Rhodes Jr., Wilson Rhodes and Joe Rhodes. She is survived by a brother, Ray Rhodes and wife Dorothy of Union Point, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Margaret''s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Rhodes Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Cox, Andrew Rhodes, Lane Doolittle, Joey Rhodes, Ronnie Rhodes, Corey Bennett and Kevin Nichols. Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Margaret''s Grove Baptist Church: Otis Simons, Herbert Rhodes, Wayne Taylor, Glynn Fennell and Ray Rhodes. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro.
