Thedeous Thurmond Lewis Johnson
Thedeous Thurmond Lewis Johnson passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Savannah Court of Lake Oconee. She was 92. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Thedeous was born July 3, 1924 in Greensboro, Georgia. She was the daughter and youngest of seven children born to the late Alexander McHenry Thurmond and Dida Mae Allen. She graduated from Greensboro High School. In 1954 she began her working career for Greene County Department of Family and Children Services as a case worker. After 31 plus years of service she retired in 1985 as the Director. She was a proud and longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Greensboro, GA and a member of the Meadowcrest Club. “Miss Thedeous,” as so many called her, kept a bible in every room of her house for overnight visitors. She enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, playing cards and spending time on her riding lawnmower. She was a friend to many and loved being with others, but her family was most important.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Waldo Johnson Lewis, Sr. and William R. “Bill” Johnson, Jr.; daughter, Toni Barnhart; and siblings, G.M. “Dick” Thurmond, Winnie Smith, Ruby Fears, Calvin Thurmond, Pope Thurmond and John Thurmond. She is survived by her daughter Jana Chillemi and husband Tom of Sky Valley, GA; son, Johnny Lewis of Greensboro, GA; seven grandchildren; John Chillemi and wife Daniela, Tommy Chillemi and wife Tori, Nicole Chillemi, Laura Ashley Lewis, Valerie Barnhart, Bobbie Barnhart and Kelsey Barnhart; six great grandchildren, Jack Chillemi, Olivia Chillemi, Paul Chillemi, Annabella Chillemi, Thomas Chillemi and Hudson Chillemi. She was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many friends and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church North Campus, 202 W. Broad, Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Mike Morgan and Rev. Hugh Hendrickson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at the Family Life Center. Burial will follow in the Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as honorary pallbearers are John Chillemi, Tommy Chillemi, David Barnhart and Tom Chillemi.
