Susie Smith Obituary

Susie Almond Smith, 93, of Union Point, GA, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Sparta Health and Rehabilitation. A lifelong resident of Greene County she was born on September 5, 1918 in Penfield, GA, the daughter of the late Lewis Glenn Almond and Sara Maude Wilson Almond. She grew up and attended school in Penfield and at the age of sixteen married Harry Smith. For a while during World War II, they lived in Maryland. Because she loved to travel and meet new people, she had the perfect job as an insurance agent for Aflac. She enjoyed travelling so much it was nothing for her to be at the beach one day and in the mountains the next. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Union Point and continued to be active as long as her health allowed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Smith in September of 1986; a grandson, Brian Smith; and her siblings, Oline Almond Mullis, Louise Almond Hughes, Ruby Almond Johnston and Emory Glynn Almond. She is survived by a son, Wilson H. Smith and his wife Sandra of Waynesboro, GA; very dear friends, Mary Meadows, Edith Barnhart and Ann Murphy all of Union Point, GA; her god daughter, Susan Higdon of Greensboro, GA; and her helper and companion, Lisa Wyatt.
