Susan Elizabeth Purks Flynt

Susan Elizabeth Purks Flynt, 91, of Crawfordville, GA, died Friday, March 19, 2004 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A native of Newton County, Georgia, she was born on December 14, 1912 to the late Luther King Purks and Carrie Ophelia Harwell Purks. She was a 1930 graduate of Cedartown High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville before graduating from Peabody College in Nashville, TN. After graduating, she moved to Crawfordville in 1936 and taught Home Economics at Alexander H. Stephens Institute for several years. When she married Jesse Welcome "Hoke" Flynt, she became a homemaker. She was a member of the Crawfordville Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Welcome "Hoke" Flynt in 1981; and a son, Wales Edwin Flynt in 1966. Survivors include two sons, Ralph Hoke Flynt and wife Bonnie of Crawfordville, GA and James P. "Jimmy" Flynt and wife Julia of Conyers, GA; three grandchildren, Stan Flynt of Augusta, GA, Scott Flynt of Sandy Springs, GA and Eddie Flynt of Atlanta, GA; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crawfordville Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gerri Lancaster and Rev. Ira McKeever officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Crawfordville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 204, Crawfordville, GA 30631 or to The American Red Cross, East Georgia Chapter, 1297 S.
