Steve Jarrard

Steve Jarrard, age 91, of Siloam, Georgia, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at Saint Joseph''s At East Georgia in Greensboro. He was affectionately known to his friends and loved ones as "Lightnin". Born in Valley Town, North Carolina on March 19, 1919, he was the son of the late James Benjamin Jarrard and Ethel Woods Jarrard. In 1920 the family moved to Lumpkin County, where Steve grew up and attended Lumpkin County Schools. In 1936 he moved to Greene County and worked with Rhodes Lumber Company. He married the former Elizabeth Carolyn Arthur from Oglethorpe County on June 22, 1944. In March of 1956, he opened Jarrard''s Grocery and in 1973 moved to the current location and added a gas station and used car lot. Even after retirement, he continued to work with his sons at the store and in the used car business. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Arthur Jarrard in December of 2005. He is survived by two sons, Thurmond Willis Jarrard and wife Linda of Siloam, GA and William Steve "Tic" Jarrard of Siloam, GA; four grandchildren, Jamie Jarrard and wife Christie, Lynn Marchman and husband Billy "Boot" Marchman Jr., Mathew Jarrard and fiance'' Crystal Staples and Zack Jarrard and wife Jennifer; six great grandchildren, Autumn Jarrard, Summer Jarrard, Phoenix Jarrard, Olivia Jarrard, Allie Marchman and Abby Marchman; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roscoe Thurmond Jarrard in 2009 and Walter Willis Jarrard who was killed in Germany during WWII.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Siloam Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Usry and Rev. James Bowen officiating. Interment will follow at the Siloam Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Reggie Jarrard, Mike Jarrard, Billy "Boot" Marchman Jr., Keith James, Larry Eley and Edward Clements. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night at McCommons Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Siloam Baptist Church, P. O.
