Sophie Ogletree Drane

Sophie Ogletree Drane, age 91, of Union Point, Georgia, died Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro.  Born in Union Point on March 27, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Addie Ogletree, Sr. and Pearl Jones Ogletree.  She was a graduate of Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville, GA graduating as the Valedictorian of the class of 1942.  She was a member of the National Beta Club and attended Marsh Business College in Atlanta, GA.  She became the Secretary to the Manager of Swift and Company Refinery in Atlanta and worked there  until she married Noel A. Drane.  They moved to Macon, GA in 1946.  Growing up she was a member of Robinson Baptist Church in Robinson, GA, later Cherokee Heights Baptist in Macon, GA and at the present a member of First Baptist Church in Union Point, GA.  For 46 years she taught the 4 and 5 year olds in Sunday School.  While living in Macon she became the secretary to the Executive Secretary of Pilot Club International and attended one of Pilot Club’s Conventions in Chicago.
 
Survivors include her children, Al Drane, Becky Hopkins (Ricky) and Brenda Lindsey (Bobby);  grandchildren, Marie Harder, Benji Drane, Chris Drane (Millie), Jay Lindsey (Lisa), Sharon Hunter (Fernandez), Wayne Lindsey (Kim), Kim Leach (Russell), Kelly Coleman (Allen) and Shelly Coleman (Grant); great grandchildren, Brittany Blount, Tiffany Blount, Ashton Drane, Morgan Leach, Bailey Coleman, Landon Coleman, William Coleman, Walyn Coleman, Eric Bell, Dylan Bell, Ashleigh Bell, Alexus Lindsey, Miracle Destiny and Braydon Hunter and John Bentley Lindsey;  great, great grandchildren, Jacob and Lee; two brothers, Clyde Ogletree of Norcross, GA and George Ogletree of West Palm Beach, FL; a sister, Estelle (Wayne) Wagnon of Decatur, AL; many special nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law.  She was preceded in death by her husband Noel Drane;brothers, Ben, Vernon and Watson Ogletree; and a sister, Annie O. Lyle.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Marc Lhowe and Rev. Bert Mathews officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Ricky Lindsey, Wayne Hopkins, Ricky Newsom, Dee Lindsey, Paul Jackson and Mark Higdon.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at the church.  The family requests that any memorials be made to First Baptist Church, c/o Gail Lindsey, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669.  Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
