Sibyl Hodnett Obituary

Sibyl Bickers Hodnett, age 87, of the Centennial Community died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at her home with her family. She was born in Greene County on August 28, 1921 to the late William Thomas "Willie" Bickers and Pearl Corine Martin Bickers. She was a graduate of Greensboro High School, Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta. After working two years for Georgia Baptist, she returned to Greene County to take care of her mother. She then worked as a Registered Nurse and Director of Nurses at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital for thirty-four years. She was a member of Centennial Christian Church and the American Nurses Association. She enjoyed camping, fishing, working with flowers and her family.

Mrs. Hodnett was preceded in death by her husband, James Pierce "J.P." Hodnett in August of 1991. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Hodnett of the Centennial Community and Lynn Myers and husband John of the Centennial Community; two grandsons, John Myers and wife Wendy and William Myers; a great granddaughter, Delaney Myers; a very good friend, Bob Wenzel; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Centennial Christian Church with Dr. Joseph R. Bennett officiating. Serving as pallbearers are J. D. Ledford, James Lanier, Bobby Lanier, Steve Lanier, James Scoggins and Donald Bickers. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Lee Parker, Dr. W. H. Rhodes, Jr. and Sam McLeroy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home.
