Shirley Gibbs Marshall, 80, of Union Point, GA, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Saint Joseph''s At East Georgia Hospital. Born on June 28, 1930 in Ocilla, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Pearl Gibbs and Ethel Murray Gibbs. She graduated from Albany High School before attending the University of Georgia in Athens. She married Charles Mitchell Marshall on February 6, 1949 and lived in Albany until 1950. They moved to Athens living there until 1969. For 14 years they lived in Tifton, GA and moved back to Albany for 9 years . In the fall of 1994 they moved to Union Point. For nine years she worked as a Lab Technician for the world renown Ecologist, Dr. E. P. Odum, at the University of Georgia and for a number of years worked for several doctors offices doing labs and paperwork. She made a loving home for her family and was an excellent cook and enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was a founding member of Grace Fellowship Church where she was active until her failing health.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Mitchell "Charlie" Marshall of Union Point, GA; three sons, Sam Marshall and wife Meg of Greensboro, GA, William Mitchell Marshall and wife Marilynne of Tifton, GA and Arthur Gibbs and wife Beth of Charlottesville, VA; brother, Cecil Gibbs of Leesburg, GA; grandchildren, Deanna Marshall, Lucy Marshall, Andrew Marshall, Mitch Marshall, Ben Marshall, Emily Gibbs Rollins and Evelyn Gibbs; great grandchildren, Landen Marshall, Carah Marshall, Tylar Marshall, Ella Rollins and Claire Rollins; and a number of other relatives and friends and her favorite dog, Chula. She was preceded in death by siblings, Robert "Bobby" Gibbs and Louise Gibbs Brunson; and a granddaughter, Kim Marshall.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 1971 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Long officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time for the service at Grace Fellowship Church. Graveside Services will be at Riverside Cemetery, 200 Cotton, Albany, GA 31705, Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends at the graveside after the service.
