Sarah Louise Thornton Melton, age 95, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Boswell Parker Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on April 19, 1917 to the late William Clarence Thornton and Ruth Merritt Thornton. She graduated from Forsyth High School and attended Bessie Tift College. For thirty-two years, Mrs. Melton was a bookkeeper for the Georgia State Department of Education retiring March 1, 1980. Moving from Riverdale, GA to Greene County, she had lived at Willow Run Retirement Home for the last thirteen years and moved to Boswell Parker Health and Rehabilitation in July of 2012. She was of the Methodist Faith and enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
Mrs. Melton is survived by her daughter, Cecilia Davison and husband Dillard of Greensboro, GA; two grandchildren, Cheryl (David) Davis and Robby (Susan) Davison; and three great grandchildren, Samuel Davis, Nicholas Davis and Shane Davison. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Caton in 1958 and her second husband, Clarence Melton in 1976; and a brother, James Thornton.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Park, 2000 Marietta Blvd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 with Rev. John Pike officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
