Samuel Lyntz Gifford, age 85, of Eatonton, GA, formerly of Lordstown, Ohio, died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at St. Mary''s Hospice House in Athens. He was born on December 31, 1920 in Lordstown, Ohio to the late Walter P. Gifford and Irene Lyntz Gifford. He graduated from Lordstown High School in 1938 and attended Youngstown State University. During World War II he served as a 3rd Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy in the Asiatic Pacific from April of 1944 until January of 1946. He retired as the owner and operator of Gifford''s Meat Packing Company. While living in Ohio, he was a member of Lordstown Lutheran Church, Lordstown VFW, Lake Milton American Legion Post 737 and served as a member of Lordstown Board of Education from 1969 to 1981.
Mr. Gifford was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Hagarman Gifford in October of 1998; two daughters, Barbara Lee Gifford in 1971 and an infant daughter in 1947; and a sister, Harriet Hogan. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Fike and husband Donald of Eatonton, GA; a granddaughter, Kimberly Hoffman; a grandson, Thomas Hoffman, Jr.; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 30, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Dr. Jimmy A. Long and Reverend Randy Ketchum officiating. Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. Interment services will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Lordstown Cemetery in Lordstown, Ohio. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at Holeton - Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles, Ohio. The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Mary''s Hospice House, P. O.
