Sally Hackney Scarborough Roper, 64, of Greensboro, Georgia died Thursday, April 21, 2005 at her home. A native of Lake City, Florida, she was born on June 8, 1940 to James Virgil and Grayce Hackney Scarborough. Mrs. Roper attended Brenau Academy in Gainesville, Georgia and graduated from Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida. She attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran, Georgia where she met her husband Robert Allen Roper. The Ropers first came to Greensboro in 1959 and in 1967 moved to their farm just outside the city where they raised four childrena€" Bob, Jim, Paige and Brooke. Mrs. Roper worked for 23 years at The Durham Veterinary Clinic, was involved in numerous charitable organizations and sang in the choir of the First United Methodist Church for many years.
Mrs. Roper is survived by her husband Robert Allen "Bobby" Roper, her son Bob, his wife Andrea and grandchildren Cheney and Hutch Roper; son Jim, his wife Jennifer and grandchildren Davis and Jamie Lynn Roper; and daughter Brooke, her husband Bryan Carroll and granddaughters Sally Paige and Clark Carroll. She was preceded in death by her daughter Paige Roper in 1997. Mrs. Roper is also survived by her sister Pam Scarborough Ousley, nephew Matt Rose and niece, Betsy Abdulghani.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Richard Chewning, Rev. Ed Nelson and Rev. Ira McKeever officiating. Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are John Crouse, Fred Hunter, Bobby Durham, Gary Vickers, Jim Cline and Edward Stone. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Temple, Charles Copelan, Wynn Copelan, Charles Crumbley, Earl Engel, Ron Wolf, Pat Delony, Pete Topken, Bill Sisterhen, Tommy Ligon, Frank Webster, Tom Gutherie and Zippy Duvall.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, 910 17th Street NW, Washington, DC or The Wesley Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church, 2830 Hwy 15 South, Greensboro, Georgia 30642.
