Ruth Durham Edwards

Ruth Durham Edwards, 96, of Crawfordville, GA died on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. Daughter of the late John Wesley Durham and Madge Rider Durham, Ruth was born on July 14, 1913, in Taliaferro County, Georgia. She graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute and was a member of Crawfordville Baptist Church. She worked as a seamstress for 30 years at Royal Manufacturing Company in Crawfordville before retiring. In 1995 she moved to Jackson where she attended Paran Baptist Church for a number of years before moving to Stockbridge in 1999. She has made her home at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point for the past six years. Mrs. Edwards enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie George Edwards on September 6, 1980, a son, Charles Ronald Edwards; and siblings, Allen Durham, Steed Durham, Rastus Durham, Charlie Durham, Ed Durham and Bluford Taylor.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Newman and husband J.R. "Jimmy" Newman of Woodstock, GA; a son, Drury Max Edwards and wife Angel of Jackson, GA; a sister, Minnie O. Marchman of Milledgeville, GA; two brothers, Alex Durham of Ashland, VA and Graham Durham of Social Circle, GA; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1423 N. Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. J.R. "Jimmy" Newman officiating.
