Ruth Baker Berrong

Ruth Baker Berrong of Monroe, Georgia, formerly of Greensboro, Georgia died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Georgia at the age of 93. Mrs. Berrong was born to the late James Alfred Baker and Lola Blonnie Helms Baker in Jefferson, GA, on August 24, 1920. She graduated from Greensboro High School and Draughn Business College, and worked for Abernathy Publishing Company in Atlanta, GA, as a receptionist. On November 2, 1940 she married Larry Boyd Berrong, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 14, 2001. She is survived by four children: Larry Berrong, Jr., and wife, Carolyn, of Monroe, GA; Cindy Whitlow and husband, Andy, of Pooler, GA; Al Berrong and wife, Susan, of Knoxville, TN; and Jack Berrong and wife, Pam, of Conyers, GA; grandchildren: Trish Berrong, Lori Berrong Lefkowitz and husband, David Lefkowitz, Jackie Whitlow, Shelby Whitlow and wife, Maggie, Cannon Berrong, Zac Berrong and wife, Jamie Berrong, Hunter Berrong, Chase Berrong and Kaylee Berrong; four great grandchildren: Adam and Jason Lefkowitz, and Taylor and Brantley Berrong; and many other beloved family members and cherished friends.

Mrs. Berrong was a dedicated sports fan: she cheered on countless games featuring her children and grandchildren, as well as the Atlanta Braves and the University of Georgia Bulldogs. She loved to bake, and would not have dreamed of showing up to a family event or tailgate without her legendary caramel cake. She was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing hymns with the senior choir and attending Sunday school.

Funeral Services will be held, Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, with Dr. David Poe of Sunrise Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA, 30642. Serving as pallbearers are her sons Larry, Al, and Jack, son-in-law Andy, grandsons Cannon, Chase, Zac and Hunter and grandson-in-law, David. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.
