Ruby Nell Merritt Powell

Ruby Nell Merritt Powell, age 75, of Siloam, Georgia, died Monday, December 19, 2005 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Greene County she was born June 26, 1930 the daughter of the late Reid Ceils Merritt and Belle Lewis Merritt. She graduated from Greensboro High School. Ruby Nell started working at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital as an LPN in 1949, the year the hospital was built. After retirement in 1996 she worked awhile at Willow Run Retirement Home. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Elder Powell in 1983 and a sister, Louise Atkinson. Survivors include her son, Cecil Powell and wife Leslie of Greensboro, GA; two sisters Sybil Godbee and husband Marion of Covington, GA and Lois Leach and husband Billy of the Liberty Community; three brothers, Jack V. Merritt and wife Montine of the Liberty Community, Doyle L. Merritt and wife Regina of Martinez, GA, and Ceils Merritt and wife Carol of the Liberty Community; three grandsons, Brian Powell, Jason Powell and Curt Powell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Marsingill officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Powell, Jason Powell, Curt Powell, Robbie Chapman, Jeffrey Smith and Richard Stewart. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home.
