Ruby Simpson McCook

Ruby Elizabeth Simpson McCook of Union Point, Georgia, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the age of 91. Ruby was born in Union Point, GA on July 13, 1922 the daughter of the late Alexander Bristow and Erma Pauline Carter Simpson. She graduated from Union Point High School and furthered her education at Montreat North Carolina Presbyterian College, where she received a Bachelor''s Degree in education. Her teaching career began in 1943 at Lithonia. Later she taught at Warrenton, Dacula, Watkinsville, Porterdale, Buckhead and finally Loganville, where she taught for twenty-one years. In all she had thirty-one years of experience. As a teacher, one of her favorite quotes was "Work Means Success". The high standards of education and life that she stood for was a tribute to the teaching profession. Her students loved her and felt that she was a very sincere teacher. After retiring, she moved to Union Point where she enjoyed working in the yard and doing work on her home. She also enjoyed macrame and travelling. Most recently, she had been living at Savannah Court.

She is survived by numerous cousins, Robert Simpson, Inez Simpson Hunt, Louise Simpson Berrong, Alex Simpson, Carroll Carter Underwood, Lowell Underwood, Gilbert Underwood, Perry Underwood, Claire Underwood Hertzler and Lanelle Underwood LaRue; nephews, Mark Wheelus, Wade Wheelus and David Wheelus; a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Wheelus; and five cousins, Shirley Simpson Finch, James Simpson, Archie Simpson, John Felton Underwood and Weyman Underwood.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 2999 Bethany Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Reggie Haslett officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Wheelus, David Simpson, Mike Simpson, Joe Simpson, Carroll Underwood and Perry Underwood. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m until time for the service at Bethany Presbyterian Church.
