Ruby Mariah Edwards, age 89, of the Gumhill Community in White Plains, GA died Friday, January 2, 2004 at Putnam General Hospital. A lifelong resident of Gumhill, she was born on August 3, 1914 in Hancock County to the late Martin Francis Edwards and Ivy Adell Pickard Edwards and attended Gumhill and White Plains Schools. She was a co-owner and operator of M. F. Edwards & Sons Dairy Farm and a member of Mt. Stephens Baptist Church in White Plains.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Edwards of White Plains, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Stephens Baptist Church in White Plains with Rev. Dennis Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Perry Johnson, Marty Edwards, Tommy Barnett, Ricky Holcomb, Joe Simpson and Lyle Edwards. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Edwards, Jim Edwards, Ellis Morgan, Dennis Sheppard and Charles Morgan. The family requests that any memorials be made to Mt. Stephens Baptist Church, c/o Jim Edwards, Route 1 Box 277-A, White Plains, GA 30678. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday night at the Funeral Home.
