Rosa Ruth Hammond Bustin

Rosa Ruth Hammond Bustin, age 90, of Greensboro, GA died Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Athens, GA. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born July 13, 1920 the daughter of the late Benjamin Bartemus Hammond and Sarah Flym Bryan Hammond. She attended grammar school in Veazey and Liberty and graduated from Greensboro High School with the Class of 1936. On December 17, 1939 she married Russell Wilson Bustin who preceded her in death on June 21, 1986. For forty-four years she worked for Union Manufacturing in Union Point which later became Chipman Union. Before moving her membership to the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro, she was a member of Walker United Methodist Church. Rosa Ruth was talented in many ways but she really enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, growing flowers and sharing her flowers with friends. Her other activities included cooking, quilting, reading, playing the piano and watching television, especially The Price is Right. Mrs. Bustin enjoyed the company of others visiting, talking and going to church.

Survivors include her daughters, Annette B. Dowdy and husband Robert of the Veazey Community and Doris B. Crawford and husband Bill of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Debora C. Martin, Patti C. Pinson, Laura C. Ray and husband Robert, William "Bill" Crawford, Jr. and wife Kim, Scarlet C. Watson and husband Brad, Marty Dowdy and wife Patti, Terry Dowdy and wife Michele, Lucy D. Lord and husband Dave; great grandchildren, Brandy Shuman, Kim Funderburk, Mark Pinson, Jessie Brooks, William Pinson, Austin Pinson, Dillon Ray, Brittany Ray, Logan Crawford, Kanton Crawford, Courtney Watson, Noah Watson, Daniel Dowdy, Libby Dowdy, Brianna Lord, Cody Lord, Cory Lord, Trevor Dowdy and Sean Dowdy; great great grandchildren, Taylor Shuman, Nathan Shuman and Hayden Pinson; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Benjamin Edgar Hammond, Sarah Jo Parker and Henry Hammond; a granddaughter, Angel Crawford; a great grandson, Jason Pinson and a grandson-in-law, Keith Martin.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 202 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, Georgia 30642 with Rev. Ira McKeever officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Marty Dowdy, Terry Dowdy, Bill Crawford, Jr., Robert Ray, Brad Watson, Dave Lord, Daniel Dowdy, William Pinson, Dillon Ray and Steve Pinson. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Brooks, Ben Funderburk and Steve Shuman. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night at McCommons Funeral Home.
