Ronnie Ellis Obituary

Ronnie Ernest Ellis, 66, of Greensboro, GA, died Monday, December 24, 2007 at his sister''s home. Ronnie was born in Newton County on April 1, 1941 to the late Clayton Ellis and Ruth Finch Ellis. His family moved back to Greene County and he grew up on highway 15 north, later moving to White Plains. In 1988 he entered a new phase in his life when he returned to Greensboro where he was able to live independently in his own apartment at Mize Court thanks to the Little Red Schoolhouse, Gro Industries and his primary caretakers, his sisters Elaine Ellis and Laura Yearwood. Ronnie was born with learning disabilities but overcame that obstacle to live a full and happy life with family and friends. He loved working in the hayfields, feeding and milking cows and stocking store shelves. He worked all of his life with his most recent job being at The Pizza Hut where he has worked for the past 13 years. Due to health problems he retired on December 1, 2006. He was known by the people of Greene County and in other places as a capable, willing and responsible employee who cheerfully followed directions and was conscientious about any job he attempted. Ronnie has been an inspiration to so many as he has ridden his bicycle, and more recently, his little red scooter as he made his daily rounds to the post office, Greene Supply, Richard''s Auto Supply, Greensboro Full Service, Farmers Feed & Seed, Sisson''s Sales & Service, Hunter''s Drug Store and other places in town. He was a greeter on Sunday mornings at First United Methodist Church of Greensboro where he was a member and headed many a parade in Greensboro on his bicycle. He was the honorary chair for Relay for Life in 2007.

He is survived by three sisters, Elaine Ellis and husband Don of Greensboro, GA, Mary Lou Ellis and husband Gary Leach of Greensboro, GA and Laura Yearwood and husband Keith of Union Point, GA; three brothers, Billy Ellis of White Plains, GA, Lewis Ellis and wife Johnnie of Buckhead, GA and James Ellis and wife Carolyn of Mary Ester, FL; and numerous friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Ellis and Curtis Ellis.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ken Cawthon, David Evans, Ricky Lindsey, Herbie Thurmond, Wayne Sisson and Roger West. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Pizza Hut. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until time for the service on Thursday at the Family Life Center. The family requests that any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Bldg Fund, 202 West Street, P.O. Box 216, Greensboro, GA 30642. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
