Rodney Laird Bernard of Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia, died on December 24, 2005. Son of the late Irma and Robert Bradford Bernard, Sr., Rod was born on September 7, 1932, in Sonoma County, California. He grew up in California, served in the U.S. Air Force, graduated from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and began his long career in accounting.
In 1960, he met Carolyn Monfort, a business associate who had just moved to San Francisco from Georgia. They became good friends, later fell in love and were married in 1966. In 1972, he and Carolyn moved to Atlanta to be closer to family members. Although the Bernards moved full time to Reynolds Plantation in 1997, Rod continued as President of Rodney L. Bernard, CPA PC until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs, the AICPA, and the Greensboro First United Methodist Church.
Rod was devoted to his family and enjoyed special time with nieces and nephews. He knew the interests of each one and was always an encouraging uncle. He enjoyed golfing and was interested in sports throughout his life. Rod is survived by his wife, Carolyn, her sisters June Wilkerson, Patricia Hines and husband Bill, Willene Bush and husband Glen, nine nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Bradford Bernard, Jr., of Sacramento, CA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, at the Greensboro First United Methodist Church, 202 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, with the Reverend Richard Chewning officiating. Visitors will be received afterward in the church''s Family Life Center.
