Robert Thomas "Bobby" Sherrer, Sr

Robert Thomas “Bobby” Sherrer, Sr., age 74, of Union Point, Georgia, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. Born in Greene County on May 22, 1931 he was the son of the late Thomas Eddie Sherrer and Christine Jackson Sherrer. He graduated from Union Point High School in 1950 and Marsh Business College with an Associate of Business in 1956. After graduation from high school, Bobby joined the United States Air Force and served from 1950 until 1954. Bobby was a Sergeant in the Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. In December of 1955 he married Lina Belle Hunt and this December 17th they would have been married for fifty years. For thirty years he worked as a truck driver for Atlanta Motor Lines formerly known as Harper Trucking. He lived in Atlanta for twelve years and in Riverdale for thirty-nine years. They returned to Union Point in October of 1998. He was a lifelong member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point. Mr. Sherrer is survived by his loving wife, Lina Belle Hunt Sherrer, of Union Point, GA; a daughter, Charlotte A. Bentley of White Plains, GA; two sons, Thomas Reginald Sherrer of Union Point, GA and Robert Thomas Sherrer, Jr. and wife Cynthia L. of Covington, GA; seven grandchildren, Kim Smith, Allen Sherrer, Rae Lynn Strozier, Jessica Sherrer, Haley Sherrer, Kimberly Sherrer and Jonathan Sherrer; five great grandchildren, James Thomas Smith, Alexis Smith, Emily Strozier, David Adriance and Steven Corry; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Jim Olds and Rev. Thomas Ghann officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Danny Copelan, Harry Healey, Bud Thornton, Wayne Jackson, Paul Jackson and Allen Griffith.
