Robert Randolph Pitman

GREENSBORO, GA – Robert (Bob) Pitman, of Greensboro, died Tuesday morning, February 5, 2008. Born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 25, 1943 Bob was the loving son of Ernest and Virginia (Dean) Pitman. Bob is remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, loving heart and generous spirit. He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting and was an avid sports enthusiast. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and friends with whom he shared these adventures. After graduating from Terry Parker High School in 1961, Bob worked at Pitman and Sons Wholesale Produce in Jacksonville, FL. He married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca (Becky) Wolfe in 1963. In 1970, he and his family moved to Orlando to open Pitman Produce of Orlando. Upon returning to Jacksonville in 1973, he served as President of Pitman Produce of Jacksonville until his retirement in 2001. Bob was an active member of Parkwood Baptist Church, Deermeadows Baptist Church and most recently at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church. Bob is survived by his wife, Becky, of 44 years along with two daughters, a son and their spouses: Allyson and James Lakeman of Greensboro, GA, Ann and Kurt Suhs of Johns Creek, GA and Robert Jr. and Jennifer Pitman of Jacksonville, FL, as well as 6 grandchildren, Colby Ann, Jameson Allyn and Robert Davis Lakeman of Greensboro, GA, Benjamin Suhs of Johns Creek, GA and Haley and Landon Pitman of Jacksonville, FL. He also leaves his brothers, Bill, Don and Charles Pitman all of Jacksonville, FL, sisters, Patsy Oviatt of Lake Park, GA and Kathy Trunnell of Jacksonville, FL, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Deermeadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville. A Burial Service will be held at Walker United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Joe King officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Bill Pitman, Don Pitman, Charles Pitman, James Lakeman, Edwin Wolfe, Gene Oviatt and Kurt Suhs. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Rodney Lay, James Gaff, James Caraway and Rodney Glover. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church.
